The E3 Motherboard contains 6 top peripheral interface headers (SPIPs) and 6 bottom SPIPs. Peripheral interfaces are stackable with applications capable of utilizing up to 36 peripheral boards per PIEP motherboard (3 peripherals on each SPIP). Each SPIP header is rated at 1A max or 2A total system current. SPIP headers are generally categorized by I2C (2), SPI (2), SCI (2) or Digital (6). Digital headers 1 - 3 mostly contain resources common across all PIEP compatible processors. Digital SPIP headers 4 - 6 contain mostly processor specific resources. Peripherals may be remotely mounted by means of the PIEP Remote Mount Kit.
Peripheral voltage selection (3.3 or 5V) is set via the peripheral voltage select jumpers. The on-board processor reset switch is conveniently located next to debug headers. All peripheral boards can be secured via M3X6 nylon standoffs (E3 SKU 400-012). Processor boards may also be secured via two mounting locations with nylon screws and spacers. Interfaces to external devices are made through 1mm JST (DPIP) or 2mm (peripheral board) connectors. Input voltage range: 9 to 24 Volts DC, unregulated. The PIEP supports both JTAG-20 and 6-pin BDM / ICD debuggers & programmers.
